R.I.P. Ray Manzarek (12 February 1939 - 20 May 2013)
The Doors released two more albums after Jim Morrison died. The lead vocal duties were handled by Robbie Krieger and Ray Manzarek, and Ray’s voice came closest in timbre to Morrison’s, but it lacked the dramatic delivery.
The songs on the Other Voices album were written and rehearsed while Morrison was in alive in Paris (where he eventually died), so the songs were written with the intent of Morrison singing them. “Ships with Sails” is sung by Manzarek on the album, but it sounds like a demo with Ray doing his best Morrison impression.
This is phenomenal. Ray’s playing is tremendous and so are the vocals.
